As predicted, this episode focused on Michael’s backstory and alluded to Walt’s psychic powers. AND CLAIRE IS FINALLY BACK!! But no thanks to her Island mates.
More on Claire in a second. Once again the show begins with a tight closeup of an eye. This time it’s Michael’s. Through flashbacks we learn that he was in a relationship with a woman lawyer who split with their one-year old child(Walt) to Amsterdam to work in a law firm and eventually married one of the partners of the firm. Poor Michael, an aspiring artist who gave up his art to work in construction to support his girlfriend through law school. Those situations never work out, do they?
Anyway, she never shows Walt Michael’s letters to him and Walt assumes that Michael never cared which speaks to the friction between them on the Island. After lawyer mom dies from a mysterious blood disease, Michael is asked to come to Amsterdam or was it Australia to claim him and Vincent the Dog. At that time Michael is given the small wooden box (that he had in the previous episode) where he discovers all the letters to his son that were never given to him. Oh man!!!
We learn that Walt seems to have very strong powers of manifestation. Everything he “sees” comes true. (Is this the secret of the Island, in general? Probably.) In the defining moment of this show, he sees a polar bear in a comic book and sure enough a polar bear appears out of nowhere to chase him in the Jungle. Michael and Locke manage to save him, which in turn helps bond them. Afterwards Michael gives Walt the box of letters to prove that he was always thinking of him. it was a Kodak moment, people.
OK now back to Claire. Locke and his BFF Boone trek into the jungle with the magic dog whistle to try and find Vincent who had also run away during the bear attack. Lo and behold, instead a ragged looking Claire emerges alone from the Jungle. That’s where it ends. Poor Claire.
More updates right here:
Sayid is still trying to figure out what the maps that he stole from the French woman mean. He is especially intrigued by a triangular shape drawn on it with a large rock inside.
Charlie gathers all of Claire’s belongings including her Journal which he shamelessly reads. He finds out that she likes him. I wonder if she’ll change her mind when she discovers that nobody went looking for her.!!
He also reads her dream about the black rock which he thinks may have something to do with Sayid’s map.
I am stopping now to immediately watch episode 15 to see if Claire has turned into a mad woman.
